Morpeth Duathlon 2014 - Route Maps Now Available

Route maps for the Beginner, Sprint and Standard distance races are now available to download from the event page at http://vo2maxracingevents.co.uk/Events/Morpeth-Duathlon-2014 - see the Downloads section at the bottom right of the page.

The Sprint course remains largely unchanged from 2013's event, with a tweak to the first lap of Run 1 to give the field more time to spread out; both runs still take in the closed roads of the town centre and a winding route through Carlisle Park.

The bike course proved very popular and remains unchanged. Meanwhile the Standard distance builds on that bike course to include a fantastic climb up The Trench, and is sure to prove a firm favourite. The Beginner distance bike route is much shorter, but still packs a punch with some steady climbs, beautiful roads and fast sections to really let you pick up speed.

You'll also find links within the PDF's to Map My Run, where the routes have been mapped to let you study the course in advance of race day.

Ashington Triathlon Full in Record Time!

The Ashington Sprint Triathlon has always been popular and usually sells out well before race day, but this year saw all 270 slots snapped up faster than ever. As Ashingotn is a pool-based event we have no headroom to increase the numbers, 270 is the absolute limit.

We are not maintaining a waiting list for this event. If any places are released due to competitors withdrawing, we will release the places in small batches in the New Year and we'll announce it on the event page, via Twitter (click to follow @VO2MaxRacing) and on Facebook - so keep your eyes peeled!

Open Water Swim Training at QE2 is Now Finished

We had perfect conditions last night at the QE2 lake for the final open water swim session of the year at that venue - more like swimming in a bath than a lake! 79 swimmers attended last night and rounded off another great season of swimming.

Please note that no swimming is allowed in the QE2 lake outside of the organised sessions, which means no more swimming there this year. Please don't jeorpardise future years by swimming at QE2, Northumberland County Council have been fantastic in granting us permission to use the lake and we want that relationship to last many years. There is an alternative at Ladyburn Lake up at Druridge Bay, where swimming is allowed; or in the sea at Newbiggin now that temperatures are creeping up.

We'll be having a break for a few weeks due to holidays, but we'll be back swimming at Newbiggin from mid-August - keep an eye on the website and on http://www.trinorthumberland.co.uk/open-water-swimming for exact dates. We'll be meeting at church point car park from 6pm for a 6:30 start. We hope to see some of you there, particularly those getting ready for the Newbiggin Sprint Triathlon on 1st September!

Newbiggin Waiting List Full

The event team have been looking at options to extend the entry limit for the Newbiggin Sprint Triathlon without compromising the event. By moving to a four-wave format we can add a small number of additional slots, but even with this approach there is a limit to the number of athletes the course will safely support.

The event has continued to attract strong demand, the waiting list is now full at 70 athletes and unfortunately we are no longer accepting applications for the race.

We will contact people on the waiting list as and when slots are made available with instructions on how to take up a slot. Please be aware that we may not be able to accommodate everyone on the list.

Newbiggin Full AGAIN

All 90 additional slots for the Newbiggin Sprint Triathlon sold out in under 48 hours over the weekend, and the event is once again full. Always a popular event, this year has seen unprecedented demand for places.

A waiting list is in effect in case of withdrawals, please email us at info@vo2maxracingevents.co.uk to be added to the list.

The event team are looking at options which may allow the limit to be raised still further, but this is by no means certain; our main priorities are safety and ensuring all competitors have a great experience, and we will only increase the limit again if we are sure that doing so will not compromise the event. Any news will be communicated on the website, Twitter and Facebook so please keep your eyes peeled!

Once again the team would like to thank you all for supporting the event.

Newbiggin Entries Now Re-Opened

The event team are pleased to announce that entry to the Newbiggin Sprint Triathlon on 1st September 2013 is open again with an additional 90 slots now available.

The start time of the event has been brought forward by approx. 30 minutes, and by extending the road closure slightly we have been able to accommodate an additional wave and increase the entry limit without compromising the event's quality. Details of the exact wave start times will be posted on the website in July.

Always a popular event, this year's edition filled in record time and attracted a full waiting list within 48 hours of entries closing. The VO2 Max team would like to thank you all for supporting the event, and look forward to seeing you all at the Bay in September.
