With record numbers attending our Thursday evening open water swim sessions at the QE2, we're delighted to run a small, social aquathlon which will take place directly after swim training on Thursday 21st June. Entry will be free to anyone swimming on the night (swim training has a £1 charge, payable on the night), but you must enter the event online to register - no entries on the day.
The QE2 Country Park is our home for open water swim training, boasting a 16 hectare lake surrounded by developing woodlands and open grasslands. The diverse and developing habitats around the lake now host a variety of birds, plants and mammals and the lake itself is host to both resident and migratory birds. The QE2 lake is situated approximately 14 miles north of Newcastle upon Tyne and 1 mile north of Ashington.
The 1 lap 500m swim will start in the water. The shallow freshwater lake is not exposed to current or tides which makes swimming here a very pleasant and enjoyable experience. On leaving the water the single lap 3km run will be on the footpath that winds its way through the woodland and open grasslands surrounding the lake.
To take part, just enter the event online for free and come along to swim training on the night. Sign-in will be from 18:00, swim training will start at 18:30 and the race will start at approx. 19:15. Please note that swim training costs £1, payable on the night, and you'll need to complete a registration form to swim if you haven't already done so this year. More details on swim training, as well as the registration form, can be found at http://www.trinorthumberland.co.uk/open-water-swimming.
