The Ashington Triathlon as with all of our events attracts a wide range of competitors from all abilities, especially beginners. In the last 2yrs nearly half of the competitors were beginners and many competitors came from our succesful 'Try a Tri' programme which we run in January through to the Ashington Triathlon. The Ashington Triathlon is based in what was the mining town of Ashington. Ashington is proud to have had the achievement of once being the biggest mining village in Europe.

A 400m or 16 length pool swim in Ashington Leisure Centre followed by a 2.5 lap 20K bike through the beautiful village of Bothal where you will find the famous "Bothal bank" which you will have the pleasure of going up twice ! The rest of the bike course is otherwise flat which gives you the chance to get on the tri bars and power home for the run. The 3 lap run course around the local high school and park makes sure your supporters can see and cheer you to the finishing line.
